Back in November I ran a piece on Virtue in the Wasteland’s interview with #ChurchToo co-founder Emily Joy. It was followed by others, as I dug through the issues, and I received a fair bit of pushback.
Emily has largely been off my radar since that time; we very obviously don’t float in the same circles, and life goes on. Unfortunately, Twitter decided to throw me two reminders this week.
The first came as Twitter showed me where someone I follow had replied to this deal:
So that’s nice. Reading Emily’s linked LGBTQ story once again confirmed the observations I made in November that the “problems” her #ChurchToo movement identifies, and the “fix” she advocates, are at complete odds with historic, orthodox Christianity. And she knows that.
Of course, noticing out loud is just mud slinging, according to 1517’s Academic Dean.
But speaking of #ChurchToo, the second brush came about as others I follow have interacted with Pastor Wade Burleson on the current SBC internal debate on Complementarianism. Seems Wade is intent on making the ol’ #ChurchToo rubble bounce.
All in all he’s closing in on a dozen uses of the hashtag that I can count. It’s no small amusement to see that he pastors a congregation that I drove past on the way to work every day for four years. Never went inside — let’s take a peek…
Clik here to view.
Ah. Okay.
At any rate, pray for this girl. And pray for anyone who gives her a platform without rebuke. We live, as always, in a time where the spirit of the age trumps sound teaching, and (many of) our leaders make excuses for the inexcusable.
