Two X chromosomes good, one X chromosome bad

I recently added some links in the sidebar to some good resources on current trends in the sexual revolution (which I call the “sexual arms race,” due to its ever-escalating nature). Run, don’t walk, to start reading those—the insights to be gained on the nature of gender-relations as it stands in our time are immense.

That said, I was reminded why such resources are important during another Facebook group exchange the other day. I’ll reproduce it below via copy-and-paste, with names changed.

It’s important that we recognize what our own patterns of speech reveal about our pattern of thoughts. This is an area where many good Christian people have unwittingly adopted the categories of the culture, rather than maintaining a firm hold on the categories of the Revealed Word.

Original post by Mr. Big:

If you’re sad that your church doesn’t ordain women, you don’t love women you just want them to pretend to men.

And speaking as a man… men are lame.

Be a woman, women are awesome.

Colonel Sharp:

This except nix the “men are lame” sentiment. We’re really cool and stuff and you should definitely trust and respect our leadership, ladies.

Mr. Big:

I’m going to keep it in because this isn’t really a leadership question, it’s an office question.

As the Matriarch from the “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” movie said “Men are the head, but the woman is the neck.”

Men just like to destroy stuff, women make it beautiful.

Tom:

Whoa whoa whoa.

How beautiful can an interior decorator make the office space in a skyscraper that DOESN’T EXIST? But it does, cause men designed it, then donned their hard hats and built it.

There’s some hardcore pandering going on here… Let’s be real, guys.

Mr. Big:

Tom ha, fair enough. I’m being intentionally general with this.

But the office of the pastor isn’t really one of leadership. It’s a teaching office and that’s really the point.

Tom:

I love you, Mr. Big, but encouraging women doesn’t have to mean putting men down. That’s a feminist thought pattern, my man.

Mr. Big:

Tom, this is true. Thanks for the correction.

Tom:

And wrong, the pastoral office is expressly an office of leadership. A shepherd doesn’t “teach” the sheep, he leads them.

Mr. Big:

This I’m not sure I agree with.

Tom:

Also, because it triggered me and I want to meme it:

“Men just like to destroy stuff, women make it beautiful.”

Mr. Big:

I stand very beautifully corrected.

Tom:

I mean, if we’re talking about honest-to-goodness shepherds you pretty much have to agree, cause that’s the way it is. I understand if you think scripture’s shepherd analogy breaks down at that point though.

That said, I believe pastors are to teach. But to make a false dichotomy and say that they are not to lead is beyond justification.

Mr. Big:

Tom, I think the entire reason we have the [contemporary worship] debate is because people think the pastor is the CEO of a church and they crave that authority.

So how can I make that argument that the pastor isn’t the CEO but a servant.

Tom:

By holding to the fullness of the doctrine of the holy ministry and not throwing the baby out with the bathwater, denying parts of it because – taken in isolation from the whole – they can be used to justify erroneous practices.

Mr. BIg:

Tom, good sound advice.
